About Dutchman….
My interest in motorcycling began when I was about 14 years of age.
I was in the technical class at school and several of my contemporaries were involved in running old Greaves, Bultaco and Matchless trials ‘bikes on private farmland.
Although I rarely got to ride them, I was an enthusiastic ’spanner man’ and gofer for my friends.
I was still interested in cycling of the pedaling kind and had no spare money to invest in any kind of motorcycle of my own.
My parents were never too keen on me having a motorcycle and no doubt their influence would have dampened my enthusiasm at this time.
Indeed, it was to be a number of years, five to be precise, before I acquired my first motorcycle, and so began what has become my most enduring & rewarding leisure activity.
In my early days of motorcycle ownership I spent all my spare time riding and tinkering with my ‘bikes and it wasn’t until 1987 that I started to keep a proper diary of my motorcycling adventures.
In completing my first 34 years of motorcycling adventures I have travelled over 175000 miles, of which over a third have been abroad, visiting over a dozen different countries.
During this fantastic adventure I have owned twenty seven different motorcycles, seventeen of which were acquired new and no fewer than twenty have been my beloved BMW’s!
A simple question, often asked, is ‘Why go motorcycling?’
But the answer is complexity itself.
Hopefully my particular ‘world of motorcycling’ will give an insight into the black art of motorcycling and give some indication as to why ever increasing numbers of us continue to participate in this popular, dangerous and totally addictive pastime!
I will share with you some of the thousands of photographs I have taken over the years and you can read about some of my more recent adventures, travel with me on some of my favorite ‘biking routes as well as being privy to my planning of future trips.
I hope you enjoy the adventure as much as I have.
Ride Safely….Ride to Arrive….
